An Unforgettable Journey: Our Group Adventure Through Leh, Kashmir & Kerala

Dear readers, we’re thrilled to share the incredible journey our guests experienced during our carefully curated group trip through some of India’s most breathtaking destinations. From the mystical heights of Leh to the serene valleys of Kashmir, this adventure promised memories to last a lifetime – and it delivered beyond expectations.

Day 1: Delhi to Leh – Ascending to the Roof of the World

Our adventure began in the early hours at Delhi’s Terminal 3, where our excited group gathered at 1:55 AM. Despite the early hour, the anticipation was palpable as our guests cleared customs and prepared for the 6:45 AM flight to Leh.

Touching down at Leh Airport at 8:10 AM, we immediately felt the thin mountain air at 3,600 meters above sea level. Our local team efficiently handled the security clearances for our international guests before whisking everyone away to The Gawaling Ladakh hotel.

Understanding the importance of acclimatization at this altitude – where oxygen levels are about 40% lower than at sea level – we designed a gentle first day. After a hearty lunch, our guests spent the afternoon relaxing and allowing their bodies to adjust to “Little Tibet,” as Leh is affectionately known. The evening concluded with a warm dinner and our first magical bonfire under the star-studded Ladakhi sky.

Day 2: Exploring Leh’s Spiritual Heart

Rising early at 5:00 AM, our group witnessed something truly special – the morning prayers at Thiksey Monastery. Perched majestically on a hilltop and resembling Tibet’s famous Potala Palace, the monastery resonated with the deep chants of Buddhist monks as the first rays of sunlight painted the mountains gold.

After breakfast, we ascended to the iconic Shanti Stupa, its white dome gleaming against the azure sky. Built in 1991 and housing sacred Buddhist relics, this monument to peace offered our guests panoramic views of the Leh valley that left everyone speechless.

The afternoon brought us to the Hall of Fame, a moving tribute to India’s military heroes, particularly those of the 1999 Kargil War. Our guests were deeply touched by the stories of valor and sacrifice preserved within its walls.

We concluded our Leh exploration at the historic Leh Market, where the narrow lanes have echoed with traders’ calls since the 15th century. Our guests delighted in browsing traditional handicrafts, sampling local delicacies, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Another bonfire evening at the hotel provided the perfect setting for sharing the day’s experiences.

Day 3: The Scenic Route to Kargil

Day 4: From Kargil to Kashmir’s Crown Jewel

After a leisurely 9:00 AM breakfast, we embarked on the final leg of our mountain journey to Sonamarg. The four-hour drive took us through some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Himalayas.

Crossing Fotu La Pass at 4,094 meters, our guests experienced the thrill of traversing one of the highest motorable roads in the region. The serpentine descent offered breathtaking views that had everyone glued to their windows.

A brief stop at Drass, infamously known as the second coldest inhabited place on Earth, gave our group a new appreciation for the resilience of its residents. Learning that temperatures here once plummeted to -60°C in 1995 sent shivers down everyone’s spines – and not just from the cold!

The journey through Zojila Pass, one of the world’s most challenging roads at 3,490 meters, proved to be an adventure in itself. At Zero Point, where snow never melts even in summer, our guests enjoyed an impromptu snowball fight, their laughter echoing across the pristine white landscape.

Finally arriving at the Country Inn & Suites in Sonamarg, our group was greeted by the sight of golden meadows framed by towering peaks – a fitting end to our Himalayan odyssey. The optional early morning trek to Thajiwas Glacier awaited those seeking one final adventure.
